Our colleague and dear friend, Katie Hadley is missing in Haiti. Katie is a professional engineer from our Ottawa office. She travelled to Haiti to conduct a Phase 1 environmental site assessment of the Canadian embassy in Port-au-Prince. She arrived at the Hotel Montana less than one hour before the earthquake on January 12. We received an email from her that she had settled into her room, and that she had received a local cell phone which was provided to her by the embassy. The Hotel Montana was located directly next to the UN Headquarters; both buildings collapsed during the earthquake. We have not heard from Katie since the initial email.
We have been in contact with various groups and individuals, including people on the ground in Haiti. Pictures of Katie have been shown on TV, in newspapers and on the internet, and we are doing what we can to encourage a continued rescue effort at the Hotel Montana via our contacts at DFAIT.
Katie is in our thoughts and prayers. She is a very positive and strong person, and if anyone can pull through this, Katie can. Hang in there, Katie!
