It is with great sadness that I have to make this announcement:

Yesterday evening, DFAIT confirmed that Katie was one of the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. She has been found and positively identified.

In the words of Katie's friends, we can't imagine a world without her, but this is the world we now live in.

Katie was an incredible person, and the love, compassion and support shown by all who did their best to bring her back from Haiti are testament to that. We have lost a colleague and dear friend, but Katie's positive spirit, her smile and zest for life will be with us forever.

Katie will be coming home to Canada where her family will hold a memorial service for her. More information will be posted as soon as it is available.

I would like to thank everyone for their care and concern during the last two weeks. Katie's family, and especially her mother who Katie was very close to, can take comfort in the outpour of compassion and positive energy towards Katie.

Lifewater Canada completed their first two water supply wells yesterday, and one of them has been dedicated to Katie. This well will provide a better life to many, and I am sure Katie would be very happy to know that this has been accomplished on her behalf.
