Hi everyone,

Thank you everyone for your emails of support, and I know that those of you who have not emailed are also thinking about Katie. I'd like to thank Rim and Chris in Ottawa and Natalie in Mississauga for tirelessly following up on any leads, contacting the media to raise Katie's profile, and in contacting Katie's mother and friends.

We have no real news about Katie. We know that significant rescue efforts are on-going at the Hotel Montana site, and that they have found survivors. News stories are a bit confusing sometimes, because it is hard to tell if they report the same people found or if it is a cumulative count. However, it sounds like around 30 people have been rescued. As far as we know, Katie is not part of these very fortunate people yet.

This morning I have had contact again with the DFAIT Director. DFAIT sent on of their other contractors/consultants to the hotel site. This person is currently in Haiti on DFAIT's behalf. Apparently, he reported yesterday at 5 pm to DFAIT, but was unable to provide any news on Katie. Another DFAIT person who was dispatched to Haiti with instructions to look for Katie got stuck in Florida; planes are having trouble landing at the Port-au-Prince airport, because it is overloaded. I'm not sure if he is there yet.

Sorry that I can't report any other news. Let's stay positive, I think there is still hope. Katie is a champ, she is super fit, and we'll have to keep on supporting her in our thoughts.

Sincerely,
Thomas Franz, M.Sc., P.Geo.
